Aaron H. Devor

Ph.D. (Washington, 1990)
Professor
Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies

Dr. Devor studies the social construction of sex, gender and sexuality using a grounded theory approach. His current work examines the role of philanthropist Reed Erickson in the development of North American social movements for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender support and acceptance. Devor's earlier publications largely focused on gender and sexual variance. He believes that the best social research aims to build theoretical understandings of the nature of social relations which are based on empirical data. In recognition of excellence in research, Dr. Devor was elected in 1999 as a Fellow of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. He also accords the highest importance to teaching and in 2000 was chosen as a 3M Fellow of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. Dr. Devor is the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
