What happens at Alumni branch events?

Back to document index

Usually whatever your organizing team wants to happen. Many branches have monthly pub meetings, annual picnics and barbecues, and often speakers discussing a topic of concern. Branch events are sometimes organized around a visit by President Strong or by some other UVic representative.

The University of Victoria Alumni Association wants to help you get a branch organized in your community and to help you plan your branch event. We can co-ordinate your mailings since we have access to the most current alumni addresses; arrange visits by UVic faculty visiting your community; and generally make sure your branch and events run smoothly.

If you are interested in starting a branch or being involved in branch activities, call Nels Granewall at (604) 721-6265 or 1-800-808-6828.

Calgary Branch

Nels Granewall brought greetings from UVic to an enthusiastic gathering of 30 alumni and co-op students at a reception organized by Rosemary Taylor (BA75) at the Calgary Convention Centre, May 8. Keith Black (BSc89) has accepted the challenge of reestablishing an active branch, and a questionnaire has been prepared to poll all Calgary alumni. Branch members look forward to participating in the Third Annual Calgary Pan Alumni Skate to be held at the Olympic Oval in March, 1996.

Ottawa Branch

The Quebec suite in the Chateau Laurier was the setting on May 9 for a reception organized by Teresa Beauregard (BA82) for 53 alumni and co-op students who were on hand to hear greetings from UVic given by Nels. By the end of the evening, Kaldean Brown (BEng94), formerly the Engineering Faculty representative on the Alumni Association Board, agreed to head the drive to reestablish an active Ottawa branch. A questionnaire has been sent to all Ottawa alumni with a request to return the form to Kaldean.

UVic hopes also to establish branch contacts in Asia. Alumni in the region are invited to contact the co-ordinators at the following fax numbers:
