ON THE COVER:
"Hockey Owl" by Jack Shadbolt (1909 - 98).
Mr. Shadbolt attended Victoria College in 1926 - 27
and the Provincial Normal School in 1929. He
was class president at VC and at a 1991 reunion
of student leaders, he said the arts are the
one thing that "can resolve so many of the tensions
and displacements and ironies of our living." The
abstract (acrylic on paper, 151 cm x 100 cm,
1984) was acquired by Michael Williams and donated
to the university as part of his estate. It was
in a recent exhibition of the Williams collection
at the Fran Willis Gallery, Swans Pub and the
Maltwood Gallery. |
