Diana Krall

DIANA KRALL, WHOSE CROSSOVER SUCCESS has made her one of the most popular jazz performers of her generation, will accept an honorary fine arts doctorate at fall convocation ceremonies Nov. 12. The Nanaimo-born vocalist and pianist won the 2003 Grammy Award for best jazz vocal. Her charity work has included a concert to benefit the leukemia/bone marrow transplant program at Vancouver General Hospital.

Honorary doctorates will also be presented to distinguished UVic physicist Alan Astbury, artist and conservationist Robert Bateman and Frank Calder, Canada's first Aboriginal cabinet minister. Nearly 1,300 new graduates will be granted degrees, diplomas and certificates at four ceremonies on Nov. 10 and 12.
