PEA Pond Party
Dear Colleagues,
This is to invite you, on behalf of the Executive of the UVic Chapter of the PEA, to our summer Social Event aka ‘Pond Party’ to be held on:
Wednesday, 19 June 2013, at the University Club from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Please mark your calendars for this opportunity to meet your colleagues in a relaxed and friendly setting on the patio and in the Fireside Lounge at the University Club.
A selection of finger foods, vegetable, fruit and cheese platters will be available. The drinks bar will have the usual selection of wines, beers and soft drinks.
As usual, I plan to have six $30 Gift Certificates for the UVic Bookstore to give away as door-prizes!
And I’m pleased to announce that UVic music student, Endy Zhou, has agreed to play piano for us as he did at our February event where his beautiful playing provide a delightful musical backdrop to our event.
Members may bring one guest and members may bring their children too.
You and your guest will be offered a ticket for a free drink, but we exclude guests from the draw for the door prizes.
As usual, we encourage our members to take advantage of this eagerly anticipated social event to relax after your working day and to spend some time with your colleagues on a summer afternoon.
The Chapter Executive looks forward to seeing you on the patio at the University Club on Wednesday, 19 June 2013 from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m.!
Cheers!
Vincent

Local Rep Opportunity
The UVic Chapter of the PEA needs volunteers to serve as Local Representatives for the Cornett, Social Science and Mathematics, Ian Stewart Complex and McPherson Library.
If you are interested in volunteering as a PEA Local Representative please submit your name to Vincent Connor and please state briefly why you would like to be a Local Rep.
PEA Local Representatives represent the PEA in their area of campus and are the first local point of contact for information about our Union and its activities for members. Their role includes
- Contacting new staff members when they join the Association and contributing to membership records maintenance.
- Communicating with members, particularly during critical times of bargaining or strikes by other unions at UVic.
- Assisting individuals and the Labour Relations Officer with grievances or appeals and monitoring contract violations.
There are two LR lunch meetings each year where LR’s update each other on current issues on campus and all Local Representatives are encouraged to take a free two day LR training course which is offered twice yearly by the PEA.
Personal Information Theft
Thank you for forwarding your concerns and comments in regard to the personal information theft to uvic@pea.org. Please continue to do so. In particular it is critical that members contact Melissa Moroz with any incidents where they face financial liabilities flowing out of identity theft.
The PEA has written the University indicating we expect them to make members whole and that they provide subscription-based credit monitoring for our members for a minimum of two years. We continue to discuss this situation with our legal counsel and with privacy experts.
There are questions and answers for members on our password protected UVic website at pea.org/uvicsecurity. There also various reference documents for members on this site. Bargaining information and other confidential PEA member information is now located in this password protected section of the PEA website.
This is to ensure that confidential discussions remain between PEA members. Members who have lost their login information can request a new password by entering their username or email here.
If you do not know your username or the email attached to your account please contact the PEA office at 250-385-8791 ext: 200. Members looking for more resources to login to the PEA website can become familiar with basic website functionality at pea.org/gettingstarted. We will continue to provide updates on the security breach to members.
