Local
Representatives Committee 2009
PEA Local Representatives are the first point of contact with the PEA for many
members. They are the front line of the PEA and are a source of information
about our Union and its activities for UVic PEA members. They volunteer to
represent the PEA in each area of the campus and a member of the Chapter
Executive chairs the LR committee.
Our Local Representatives meet with UVic Chapter executive from time to time
to report on issues and concerns. They also receive training concerning
labour law and contract administration from PEA staff. Our LRs help the
PEA contact new members when they first join UVic and become members.
They contribute to membership records maintenance and help in communicating
with members, they assist individuals with workplace issues including
grievances or appeals and they play a watchdog role by helping the PEA to
monitor issues and contract violations. This will be especially important as
we soon move into bargaining.
Twenty one of your colleagues served as PEA Local Representatives around the
campus. (http://web.uvic.ca/uvicpea/lrlist.htm).
