3. Urgent Business: none
4. Chair's Remarks and Correspondence:
41 At an informal meeting between Cooper Little and Dr. Pfaffenberger, the chair of the Faculty Association, items of interest to both the Faculty Association and the PEA were discussed.
42 Cooper Little has been invited to meet with representatives from CUPE and the UVSS to discuss the actions of the Liberal Government, and the implications they might have on the University.
43 A letter thanking the PEA for the contribution to the Christy Adkin Fund was circulated.
44 The Retirees Newsletter was circulated.
5. Reports
51 Treasurer (Connor)
The accounting glitch in the Chapter’s EASY account from October has been fixed. Funds in the amount of $1500 would be transferred by cheque from the Chapter's CoastCapital account to the Chapter's EASY account to cover the anticipated running costs of the Chapter at UVic for the coming months.
52 Staff Officer (Bute)
A fruitful discussion ensued regarding cuts to certain medicare items, such as eye exams, chiropractic etc. These cuts were initiated by the Liberal Government, and not the University or the insurance carrier. For the next few months, Tony will be focussing his efforts on the government layoffs, which will affect large numbers of GLP members. As such, Tony will deal with emergency University issues on a priority basis--other issues will be dealt with as time permits, in line with the government lay-off priorities. Members should contact their local reps for non-urgent information and advice.
