4.2 University Public Sector Employeers Association (UPSEA) Sectoral Plan for 1998-2001 was circulated.
4.3 Invitation from Human Resources re meeting for supervisors of staff in the new CUPE local.
4.4 Results of CUPE 951 executive election circulated.
4.5 Agenda for UVic BoG meeting has been received. It includes search procedures for VP Research. Darling will advise the staff representative that PEA wishes to make recommendations.
4.6 Letter from VP Finance and Operations confirming that the CASS Review is now available on the website.
PEA Bargaining sessions will be held each Thursday. At the first meeting, the agenda was organized into topic areas.
5.2 Provincial Executive Meeting
Gore reported on the recent meeting, which included:
Report of the
Election Review Committee was reviewed;
Report on GEU
bargaining. A strike vote will be taken the third week in May.
Report on GLP
bargaining;
Proposal for
web page development.
5.3 Seminar Committee.
Phillips reported on a recent meeting of the committee. The first series, four lunch time sessions on financial planning, will be held in June. It was suggested that honoraria be provided to guest speakers.
MOTION (Phillips/Thornton) That a portion of the allocated Seminar Committee budget be used to provide as honoraria UVic Bookstore gift certificates of to $50 per speaker in the seminar series. CARRIED
5.4 CUEE Meeting (Darling)
The UVic Chapter hosted the meeting.
The CUEAC Report,
reviewed at the recent meeting, was circulated.
Coordinated
bargaining was discussed.
Representatives
of CUPE Teaching Assistants' local attended the meeting.
It was requested
that the PEA keep the committee informed on the progress of bargaining
and of any proposed settlement.
It was suggested
that the University financial statements be reviewed in relation to bargaining.
This will be referred to the Bargaining Committee.
A meeting will
be arranged with the new Minister of Advanced Education.
Implications
of PSEC guidelines and bargaining were discussed.
Discussion
re opening the Universities Act to allow more staff representation on BoG.
5.5 Staff Officer (Doyle)
Doyle met with representatives of Sessional Lecturers re possibility of them joining PEA. The Labour Relations Board are currently reviewing their status in relation to the Faculty Association.
Two employees of the GSS have contacted PEA and CUPE about possible membership.
5.6 Equity Committee (Darling)
The report of the committees will soon be complete. A strategy has been developed for reviewing proposed equity plans.
6.2 Donations to the Chapter. After further discussion the consensus was that donations from individuals are not appropriate.
6.3 CASS Review. This is now available on the Web. Directors will review and discuss at the next meeting.
