0.1 Treasurer: Dick Chappell by acclamation.
0.2 Secretary: Maggie Cooper Little by acclamation.
0.3 Local Representative Committee Chair: Rosalie Phillips by acclamation.
0.4 Appointment Committee Chair: Jane Kovach by acclamation.
0.5 Webmeister: Tom Gore by acclamation.
2. Approval of Minutes of November 12, 1997
MOTION: (Phillips/Chappell) That the minutes be approved as amended.
CARRIED
3. Chair’s Remarks and Correspondence
3.1 Darling will circulate to Executive bargaining information received
from CUPE 951.
3.2 Errant ballot for Executive Election received after balloting date.
MOTION (Gore/Cooper Little) That the errant ballot be destroyed. CARRIED
3.3 Discussion re PEA donation to bursary fund to honour Larry Devlin
in connection with $1000 Division of Continuing Studies bursary. A one
time donation of $500 will be made for an additional bursary.
4. Reports
4.1 Elections Committee (Darling) Darling reviewed the results
of the 1997 Executive Election:
Dick Chappell - 92; Jane Kovach - 105; Maggie Cooper Little - 94; Martin
Milner - 93; Rosalie Phillips - 105; Ian Thornton - 81; Berenice Wood -
78. Kovach, Cooper Little and Phillips are elected for two-year terms.
Chappell, Milner and Thornton are elected for one-year terms.
MOTION (Gore/Chappell) That the Election Committee be thanked for their
work. CARRIED
MOTION (Gore/Cooper Little) That a letter be sent to Berenice Wood thanking
her for standing for election. CARRIED
4.2 Staff Officer (Doyle)
The Executive will need
to find a new representative for the JE Committee in January to replace
Megan Hill.
CSI staff will vote
on transferring to PEA bargaining unit. Balloting closes December 3. Thornton
and Chappell will act as scrutineers.
Review, for information
only, of correspondence from a member re "contractual obligations".
4.3 Provincial Representative
The position of Chapter representative at Provincial Executive meetings
will be rotated on a four-month basis between Gore, Darling and Phillips.
Darling will take the first rotation of December - March.
5. Business Arising
5.1 Honorary Degree Policy (Gore)
Gore reviewed background of issues concerning present UVic policy for
awarding Honorary Degrees, as well as feedback from members to concerns
raised by him in a recent e-mail dialogue. Issues are the number of degrees
awarded, the criteria for awards, possible exclusions and nominations procedures.
A draft letter will be prepared by Gore and circulated to Executive members
for comments. A written submission will be made to the University be the
deadline of December 15, 1997.
7. New Business
7.1 Scheduling Future Executive Meetings
Executive meetings will be held every second Wednesday. There will be
no meeting on December 24.
7.7 Chapter Office Work Bee
Darling will coordinate a work bee to organize files in the Chapter
office.
8. MOTION (Phillips/Thornton) that the remaining agenda
items be tabled to the next meeting. CARRIED
9. Adjournment
MOTION (Cooper Little) That the meeting be adjourned. CARRIED
