1. MOTION (Connor/Wood) That the agenda be approved. CARRIED
2. Minutes of Previous Meeting. To be reviewed at next meeting.
3. Urgent Business.
3.1 Potential Strike Issues (Darling)
Forde has responded to Human Resources re proposed essential services.
Discussion on how members would claim strike pay. This will be clarified.
Q and A to be posted on Chapter website.
3.2 Chapter By-law Changes (Cooper Little) The subcommittee has drafted proposed revisions to Chapter By-laws, which have been circulated by e-mail to the Executive for comment. Cooper Little will also send the draft to members of the former Constitution Committee for comment. The proposal be sent out to the membership before the AGM.
3.3 Chapter Executive Election The AGM is scheduled for November 4. Terms expire for the Chapter President and three of the directors. Gore will follow up with the Elections Committee, and a message will be sent out re date of AGM on the A&AP listserve.

5.1 Provincial (Gore)
Membership in the UVic Chapter now totals 376, with 30 "grandparents."
The management of the investment portfolio has been moved.
A grant of $250 to the B.C. Civil Liberties Association was approved.
The Association Convention has been set tentatively for May 1-2, 2000 in Vancouver.
In the event of a strike at UVic, the Association will pay the employer's share of benefits for PEA members honouring picket lines.
Advanced training for local representatives was discussed. This will take place in Victoria. Corner urged that the LR advanced training should cover issues specific to UVic, or that a separate LR training be held for UVic.
5.2 Association/University Committee (Wood) The last meeting included:
Discussion re lack of PEA representation for Occupational Health and Safety. At present, there is no university-wide committee. A UVic Health and Safety Committee has been proposed to deal with policy issues.
The PEA central professional development fund totals $17,341. It was suggested that a joint committee should adminster this fund.
Discussion re appropriate use of the A&AP listserve.
Issue raised re the entitlement to call-out pay if the employee performs the work from home (Article 1.07). HR are to respond at the October meeting.
No progress on Job Evaluation. This will be raised at the next meeting.
5.3 Equity Working Group (Cooper Little) Draft of a proposed UVic accommodation policy has been circulated by e-mail. Copies of a proposed accommodation brochure were distributed. Questions were asked re the role of PEA, and available resources and training if PEA are to be involved in educating members.Further comments should be forwarded to Cooper Little before October 13.
5.4 UVic Women's Conference, November 10. Cooper Little suggested that the Chapter make a donation to the Women's Conference. The Chapter will discuss this again once a letter soliciting funds has been received.
5.5 Seminars Committee (Cooper Little) A planning meeting was held September 15. Future seminars will include
Composting (October);
a repeat of the Collective Agreement Issues with Glen Darling (November);
Dealing with Stress (December); and
Financial and Retirement Planning (January).
December will also include fun topics, such as Aromatherapy, or How to Bake Great Cookies. Members will also be invited to present seminars to share their interests and hobbies.
5.6 Staff Officer (Forde) Forde has been kept busy answering questions related to a possible strike. Other issues include:
a reclassification in Biology;
reaching agreement on the definition of call out;
ramifications re the listserve issue;
a position advertized for systems analyst is externally funded. Should it be PEA?
