About the Association

Founded in 1972, the Victorian Studies Association of Western Canada (VSAWC) promotes nineteenth-century interdisciplinary studies. VSAWC hosts an annual conference at which Victorianists gather from Canada and beyond to listen to keynote speakers of international reputation, and to share their own scholarly findings and teaching experiences with colleagues.

Collegial and friendly, the Association welcomes Victorianists from all disciplines of Victorian studies. Members include scholars, teachers, students, and researchers in fields such as Victorian literature, history, cultural studies, gender studies, art history, science, religion, theatre, law, and music.

The Network of Canadian Victorian Studies Associations (NCVSA)

The NCVSA, established in 2001, consists of a cooperative network of three regional associations of Victorianists from across Canada: the Victorian Studies Association of Ontario (VSAO), the Victorian Studies Association of Western Canada (VSAWC), and the newly formed Eastern Canada Victorian Studies Association (ECVSA).

Members of any regional association are automatically members of the NCVSA.

Each year the NCVSA sponsors interdisciplinary Victorian Studies panels at the Congress of the Social Sciences and the Humanities. These sessions are co-sponsored with ACCUTE, the CHA, and other associations.
