The Taylor Building
The building is named after John George Taylor. When Taylor died in 1891 bequeathed his entire estate of $32,500 to the B.C. Protestant Orphan's Home. This bequest allowed the Society to purchase land and construct an orphanage to accomodate 100 children, replacing the old home on Rae Street that had been used for many years. The cornerstone was engraved with the following inscription: "British Columbia Protestant Orphans' Home. Founded A.D. 1873. This site and building were purchased and erected by bequest of John G.Taylor, A.D. 1893." The building was completed and formally opened on November 18, 1893.
