| Services Our laboratory offers analytical support and service for researchers in various areas of environmental science. We have a high level of expertise in aquatic and freshwater science and regularly provide analytical services and consultation at-cost to researchers, as well as laboratory analyses for collaborative research projects. Please contact us for more information about how we may be able to help you.
Isotopic signatures of carbon, nitrogen and oxygen have become important tools in biological, archeological, and geological studies as well as in forensics, food sciences, and organic chemistry. Using our state-of- the art Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer (IRMS) instrumentation our laboratory provides quick turn around on such analysis as elemental content of C and N in solid matrices, as well as their d13C and d15N. d18O of dissolved oxygen or in water molecule, as well as d13C in atmospheric CO2 can be analyzed using our Gas bench peripheral coupled with IRMS.
Organic analyses including such chemicals as pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polychlorinated dibenzo dioxins and furans (PCDD/Fs) polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE), volatile organics (VOCs), methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) and its degradation by-products, taste and odor (T&O) compounds, Fatty Acids Methyl Esters (FAME), Polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) as well as Petroleum hydrocarbons are routinely performed at our laboratory. Inorganic tests performed using Ion Chromatography(IC) or Autoanalyzer (AA) provide low-reporting level information for such parameters as total phosphorus (TP), total dissolved phosphorus (TDP), soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP), NO2, NO3, TN, NH4 and SiO2 Fresh water analyses are carried out using such methodologies as EPA 300.1b (bromate, bromide), 524 (THMs), 6251B (HAA9), SM5310C (TOC/DOC), SM6040D mod (Taste and Odor) and a new method for Pharmaceutical and Personal Care Products (PPCP) including caffeine. Algae Pigments in water and sediment matrices, Toxins and Poly-phosphate (PP) are analyzed routinely using our Ion Chromatography and HPLC instrumentations. Waste water, depending on the source, can be analyzed for low level of such contaminants as Perchlorate (EPA 314), Chlorinated Pesticides (EPA 608), PCBs (EPA 8082), PBDE, Dioxins (EPA 613), VOCs (EPA 524, 601, 624), MTBE (EPA 8021, 8260), PAH (EPA 8270) and EPH. Marine ecosystem as a result of various human activities has become a subject of environmental studies. Our laboratory provides various tests for sea water and marine biota. These analyses include low level Organochlorinated Pesticides (OCP), PCBs, PCDD/Fs, PBDE, FAME and lipids. Petroleum compounds such as Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH), Volatile fraction including BTEX, Light Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons (LEPH), Heavy Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons (HEPH) and PAH are routinely analyzed using GC-FID, or GC-MS. |
