The UVic Writer's Guide
General Rules For Citing Articles
Entries for articles in periodicals follow the format for books,
with the following exceptions:
- Place the title of the article within quotation marks. If the
title has no concluding punctuation, end it with a period inside
the quotation marks.
- Underline the title of the periodical and do not use concluding
punctuation. Omit "the," "a," or "an" at the beginning of the
periodical title.
- Give volume and issue numbers in arabic numerals. Separate these
numbers by a period, but no intervening space.
- Put the date of publication in parentheses, followed by a colon
and the page numbers for the article. Close the entry with a period.
