Offering Incidental Or Further Information

One way of dealing with the exasperating problem that you face when you find something truly interesting, but know that it is not central to your argument (and will lead to the comment in the margin "Relevance?") is to put your digression into a footnote. The other way is to excercise self-discipline and leave the fascinating information in your notes.

Sometimes you may wish to support a point in a fuller, more technical way than the smooth development of you argument will allow; again, you can put the extra information into a footnote where it is available if the reader wishes to consult it.
