Windows:

PDA:
What you need:
- A wireless laptop, PDA, or other wireless device
- Most Wi-Fi certified wireless network cards or wireless laptops will work.
- A card that supports 802.1x is recommended.
- A card that supports 802.11g, which is backward-compatible with 802.11b, is recommended.
- A Netlink ID
- A web browser
- SSL encryption must be supported for secure authentication.
- Javascript must be enabled.
- Popup blockers must be disabled, or configured to allow popups from 'publicaccess.uvic.ca'.
Quick Connect
Install your wireless network card by following the manufactuer's instructions. For a network name (SSID), use "UVicOpen" (case-sensitive). Although you can sometimes leave network names blank, or set to "any" to connect to any network, we recommend you create a profile for campus with the specific "UVicOpen" network name.
When you open your web browser in a wireless coverage area, you will be redirected to the SSL-protected (https://) UVic Public Network Access login page. Enter your Netlink ID and an authentication agent window will popup. Your wireless connection will continue to work as long as that window is open.
Security
All wireless network users, especially regular or heavy users, are encouraged to connect to the secure wireless network. See the Security page for details on how to protect your personal information.
