Garrett Barry
Garrett is an undergraduate co-operative education student pursuing a major in Biochemistry at UVic. His main project is a collaborative project between Dr. Brolo and Dr. Jirasek of the Dept. of Physics, which focuses on the surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy using gold nanoprobes that are bound to cancer cell surface proteins via protein-protein interactions. The future of this project is aimed towards accurately monitoring changes in cancer-specific biomarkers when the cancer is exposed to radiation treatment. In addition, Garrett is also involved in a project focused on biosensing antibody levels on a gold surface with nanoholes. The future of this project is intended on quantifying very small changes in antibody concentrations in serum. .
