Against
a broad background of Roman-Byzantine finds, several pockets of
earlier material stand out. Concentrations of material indicating
pecific activities include a farmstead settlement of the late-Classial
and Hellensitic periods represented by large courseware basins amphora
toes, and several ring bases, one with stamped acanthus decoration.
Other
remarkable surface finds include a fragment of a glass vessel that
was among a concentration of miniature vessels suggestive of a rural
shrine. Another isolated concentration preserved sherds representing
dozens of Late Corinthian imports alongside polychrome kylikes of
Boeotian style, most likely from funerary depositions. A few fragments
of Athenian black-figure decoration include the fragmentary torso
of a warrior with a spear born diagonally across his chest. |
