Immunohistological staining of an adult mouse retinal cross section. Rod bipolar cells are labeled red (protein kinase C - alpha immunostaining); ON bipolar cells are labeled blue (mGluR6:nuclear localized beta-galactosidase); bipolar cells and MŸller glia are labeled green (Chx10 immunostaining). Note the co-localization of PKC - alpha, Chx10 and beta-galactosidase in rod bipolar cells (whitish/grey cell bodies). ON cone bipolar cells labeled with beta-galactosidase (blue) colocalize with Chx10 (green) and appear as cyan. Cells with only Chx10 appear green and label either OFF bipolar cells or MŸller glia.
