Me and puppers.

Hi there! I'm Flora. I'm a second year Masters student at the University of Victoria. I am currently working under the supervision of Dr. Peter Dukes. I studied mathematics and chemistry for several years at Camosun College before transferring up to UVic in 2014. I received my Bachelor of Science in Honours Mathematics from UVic in June 2017.

My main areas of research are combinatorial designs, graph theory, and game theory. I held an NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award in 2016, which allowed me to work alongside Dr. Dukes for the first time. We looked at fractional triangle decompositions of tripartite graphs. My Masters thesis will also be on special types of graph decompositions. I also enjoy algebra, real analysis, number theory, and spectral graph theory, as they can be very useful tools in combinatorics. It's always interesting to see how various branches of math intersect...

Outside of research, I have a strong affinity for musical theatre, and I will take any opportunity I get to see a performance. When time permits, I love to read; dystopian fiction is my favourite! I also run "Tuesday Tea" in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics every Tuesday at 2pm - don't hesitate to stop by and say hi!

My Erdös Number is 3.

Resources for Students

  • Students in Graduate Mathematics and Statistics (SIGMAS) is the official course union for graduate math and stats students at UVic. They organize social events for graduate students, as well as run the departmental Tuesday Tea, and the semesterly exam sales for undergraduate students.
