The Campus Community Garden is seeking new board members for the 2018 Spring and Summer seasons!
Board members must be a current student, staff member, or faculty at UVic.
The Campus Community Garden’s Board of Directors meet regularly to make decisions and discuss the garden’s administration, finances, workshops, events, projects, and outreach.
Garden staff members are accountable to the Board of Directors. Board members are expected to take on volunteer leadership roles on behalf of the garden including tasks related to finances, outreach, infrastructure, giving gardens, compost, and education.

What does being a Campus Community Garden Board Member entail?
- An 8-12 month commitment, 12 months or longer preferred
- Attend monthly board meetings
- Manage the Garden budget
- Provide guidance and participate in decision making for the management of the garden
- Sign up for leadership team responsibilities and take initiative to ensure tasks are completed
- Develop and lead projects with the help of Campus Community Garden Staff and other community members
- *Active participation in garden work parties is NOT a requirement*

Lawn Maintenance Machines Orientation Workshop
Friday, April 20th at 3 PM at the Campus Community Garden
This workshop is open for everyone to attend, and is especially for the gardeners, volunteers and staff who help at the UVic Campus Community Garden to become more familiar with the lawn mowers and weed whackers. Important details like what kind of fuel to use, how to maintain the equipment, and safety protocol will be covered during our work party. Join us if you want to know how to best maintain your machines at home as well!
Aida Mashari runs Enduring Equipment, a business focusing on the repair and maintenance of farm and garden equipment. She got into this work when she was an organic vegetable farmer wanting to learn how to take care of the machines and other tools she was using. She is now fully focused on advancing her repair skills and teaching others who are keen to learn.
Edible Plant Propagation and Grafting Workshop
Wednesday, April 18 at 4 PM at the Campus Community Garden
Come learn about a variety of propagation techniques for different types of edible perennial trees, shrubs and herbs. We will also talk about the how-to of grafting. All are welcome to join!
About the facilitator:
Matt Gravel is a Victoria-based permaculturalist with a passion for sustainable and living systems. After 10 years of property maintenance and conventional landscaping, he became tired of the unsustainable and non-regenerative practices commonly used in urban environments and wanted to find a way to change these urban spaces.
He has been studying permaculture since 2012. He completed his Permaculture Design Certificate through Gaia Craft & Langara College in Vancouver, BC and his Advanced Permaculture Design Certification at the Bullock’s Permaculture Homestead on Orcas Island, WA. Currently, he is working towards a diploma in permaculture education through the Permaculture Institute.
Gravel operates a nursery, design, and education business—Plant Buoy: Life Preservation Plants. He is thrilled to be teaching people about low maintenance, ecological systems that grow nutrient dense food and medicine while regenerating urban landscapes.
Irrigation Design Basics for Growing Food Workshops!
Wednesday, March 21st & 28th, 2018 – 4pm
at the UVic Campus Community Garden
Installation Workshop on a Friday work party at the garden to follow!
These hands-on workshops will be geared towards determining what is needed for designing a simple, time saving irrigation system that a gardener could set up in their plot to grow an abundance of food. Topics will include how to test your water pressure, plan for an automatic timer system, back flow prevention and multiple valve manifolds.
Instructor: Chris Kennedy, Local Victoria Landscaper with Kennedy Landscape Services
Chris runs a small gardening company. Since 2001, he has been designing, installing and servicing residential irrigation systems. He is dedicated to organic practices and the efficient use of resources. He loves his work.

Campus Community Garden Site Officer Job Posting – STUDENTS ONLY
Affiliate Term Position – starts as soon as possible, ends on September 30th, 2018.
Hourly Wage: $15.25-$15.60 (5% Vacation Pay is added to each cheque)
Flexible shifts are to be determined. Occasional weekend and evening availability required.
