Fundamentals of Chemistry: I
Welcome to the webpages for Chem101. Navigate around
this site using the links at the left-hand side of each page.
This web site has not been fully updated to represent Chemistry 101 in
the Summer 2013 term. The Summer instructor is Dr. Coreen Hamilton.
HERE
is a link to the course information & syllabus document for Fall 2012.
Note that this document will not be distributed in paper form. You can
download and print it if you wish. This information is subjest to adjustment
for Summer 2013.
HERE is a link to some
information about Second-Year Chemistry courses, as presented by Dr. Matt
Moffitt.
- The assignments page
provides a list of recommended textbook problems.
- Get information on the grading
of the course, including rules concerning missed tests and exams.
- There are lots of places you can go for help, including:
- Course instructors:
- Sandy Briggs (course coordinator)
- Neil Burford
- Find out more about the laboratory
component of the course.
- The prerequisites
(Math 12, Chem 11) you need to be able to take this course, and why.
- What gets covered: the course syllabus.
- The course textbook is a
custom version of "Chemistry: The Central Science".
- Registration in Chem 231/232 (2nd year organic chemistry courses)
Students are reminded that they may take Chem 231 (Introductory Organic
Chemistry) in January 2013 upon successful completion of Chem 101, and
may then take Chem 232 the following September (after completing Chem
102), thus completing the second year organic chemistry requirements
“ahead of schedule” for students in biology and the health
sciences.
