Midterm Tests

Regular Fall term Midterm tests will take place outside of regular class time. This is the only way we can ensure that all students are writing the same midterms at the same time. Midterms will be on Fridays after regular classes. We have chosen the 5-6 PM time so as to avoid as many potential conflicts as possible. You are required to be present for the mid-term tests. For Fall 2013

  • Midterm Test 1: Friday, October 18, 5-6 PM
  • Midterm Test 2 Friday, November 22, 5-6 PM

Please be sure that you know your student ID number when you come to do the test. This is the number you need to code into the bubble sheet. You must bring your student ID for both midterm tests. Place it on a top corner of the desk such that it will be readily visible to the invigilator for the entire duration of the test.

Bring a soft pencil for coding the bubble sheets. Code in (i.e. shade in soft pencil) the last seven digits of your ID number. This means omitting the leading 'V0'.

Midterm tests will be composed mainly of multiple choice-type questions and a few written answer questions. Midterm test and quiz due dates may be altered at the Course Coordinator’s discretion as needed.

A sample DATA SHEET is here (as well as in the back of your Lecture Notebook).

Early Alert Program: University of Victoria Student Services and the Faculty of Science are
piloting an Early Alert Program in CHEM 101and some other courses. The goal of the Early Alert program is to support student success by identifying students who are at risk of doing poorly in this course. Based on mid-term test marks, we will offer extra support to these students. The support offered may include academic and/or non-academic support, depending on the needs of the student.

Please look at the answer keys (linked above) to sort out where you may have gone wrong. We do not have a simple way to post the list of your multiple choice responses, and the bubble sheets are not ordered, so it is tedious, though possible, to look up individual bubble sheets.
