Denise De Pape, BSc, MSc

Denise De PapeDenise has spent over 20 years in public health, working at both provincial and local levels in Ontario, first for the Ministry of Health, and then for two municipal governments. She has managed injury prevention, substance abuse prevention, tobacco use prevention and sexual health promotion programs. In her 10 years at Toronto Public Health before moving to BC, she was responsible for the Injury Prevention/Substance Abuse Prevention program and managed a major program re-design. Denise has lead a variety of provincial advocacy initiatives and has provided leadership on numerous committees and panels, including a mayor's advisory committee. Denise has been an active member of the Ontario Public Health Association, having served on the executive for a number of years, and chaired the Advocacy Committee, the Membership Committee, and the Alcohol Policy Committee. Over her career, she participated as a committee member of two writing teams for revisions to the Ontario core programs, now called Public Health Standards.

In the fall of 2008, Denise was recruited to join the BC Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport to work within the team that is developing a 10-Year Plan for Mental Health and Substance Use for the province. This work involves leadership on alcohol policy issues and fostering of a "whole-of-government" approach to reduce alcohol-related harms and costs at a population level. She currently sits on the Advisory Committee for the National Alcohol Strategy.
