Deborah Begoray, PhD is a Professor of Language and Literacies in the Faculty of Education at the University of Victoria, Victoria, BC, Canada. She has experience in literacy teaching and research in a variety of contexts and with a wide range of learners including pre service students, teachers and clinical professionals. Dr. Begoray works and researches in communities both urban and rural in areas such as critical media health literacy for adolescents. She also writes extensively on research in Indigenous communities. Dr. Begoray has extensive experience as a research team leader and administrator of large grants from SSHRC and CIHR. Her current work is to foster the creation of graphic novels 'by youth for youth' as an innovative approach to dissemination of research and knowledge translation.
