Mantle Petrology

Field and petrological studies of the mantle sampled as xenoliths, xenocrysts or in outcrop are being used to unravel the role of the mantle during the construction of orogens and the lithosphere.

Bulk rock geochemistry and mineral chemistry are used to compare and contrast the chemical composition, origin and P-T history of the lithospheric mantle in a range of settings from young to old.

This work sheds light on the assembly of continental lithosphere that is examined in several large scale geophysical projects.
