Heavy Metals in Magma
The mobility and partitioning behaviour of heavy metals (Re, Cu, Mo, Pb…) in silicate magmas, crystals and fluids is studied in experiments and natural volcanic rocks. The behaviour of these elements tells us something about their larger scale geochemical cycles within the solid earth and exosphere. In addition their relative contributions to the exosphere by degassing at volcanoes might provide insight into the monitoring of volcanic activity.
