Facilities

In addition to all the standard equipment required to carry out organic synthesis, my laboratory is equipped with the apparatus to allow the handling of extremely air and moisture sensitive compounds including standard Schlenk lines, a high vacuum line and a two station glove box equipped with a double dry train and a -45 ºC freezer. My group makes heavy use of the departmental NMR facilities, especially the heteronuclear (7Li, 11B, 19F, 29Si and 89Y) and variable temperature capabilities of the 360 and 500 MHz spectrometers. In addition, there is a dedicated 1H and 13C, 300 MHz spectrometer equipped with an automated sample changer for routine NMR characterization. There is also departmental access to FTIR and UV/VIS spectrometers as well as a full service mass spectroscopy laboratory with high resolution and GC-MS capabilities. The department maintains its own glass blowing, electronics and mechanical shops. Science Stores Elliott, located within our department, stocks a wide range of consumable chemicals and supplies and provides assistance in the purchasing and shipping of chemicals.
