Vancouver Island Section of the Chemical Institute of Canada
Who we are
The Vancouver Island section of the Chemical Institute of Canada
(CIC-VI) brings together students, researchers, and chemical industry
on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Our goal is to create
networking opportunities, venues for scientific exchange, opportunities
for students to present their work, and a forum for recognizing
achievements in the chemical disciplines on Vancouver Island.
What we do
- We organize a summer BBQ that serves to introduce new members and
their families. This also integrates activities of the CIC-VI
with that of the Chemistry Department at the University of Victoria
- We hold a student awards night to recognize achievements over the
previous calendar year.
- We run a student symposium where prizes are given for
presentations on contemporary chemistry topics. Registration is
open to undergraduate and graduate students from any postsecondary
school on the island.
- We periodically organize a crystal growing competition.
Interested elementary and high schools should contact us directly for
details.
- The CIC-VI participates in the judging of the Vancouver Island
Regional Science fair. We also sponsor a CIC award each year at
the fair.
- An annual general meeting and banquet provides another
opportunity to get members together and meet new people. The
CIC-VI award is presented during this meeting.
