Criteria for Selecting Initiatives

The selection and design of EQIP initiatives is made by the EQIP Working Group based on a set of criteria. According to these criteria, an initiative should:

  • Target an area of prescribing where patterns deviate from optimal practice as supported by evidence;
  • Support quality outcomes for patients and potential savings for the health system;
  • Be informed by best practices and lessons learned by prescribing initiatives employed in other jurisdictions;
  • Be based on a solid, scientific evidence-base to support better patient outcomes;
  • Be developed in partnership with key stakeholders; and
  • Be reviewed by university ethics committees.
