Ethical Standards

Mechanisms are in place to ensure that EQIP initiatives are developed and carried out with integrity and in line with ethical standards.

  • At the individual level, those involved on the Working Group and leading the project are required to sign a Conflict of Interest (COI) Disclosure Form to reveal any real or perceived conflict of interest (financial or otherwise) with each initiative.
  • The methodologies for all of the initiatives are screened and approved by the Ethics Review Boards of the University of British Columbia and University of Victoria to ensure that they are being conducted in accordance with the highest ethical standards and that the physicians, the public, and the researchers are all protected from harm.
  • The Working Group also seeks input from the Ethics Committee of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia on any ethics-related questions so that the program maintains integrity with respect to physician prescribing, remains appropriate in the eyes of the public and ensures an open and transparent process.

Privacy Impact Assessment

All EQIP initiatives are developed in accordance with the Privacy Impact Assessment Agreement administered by BC Ministry of Health. This extensive document ensures that EQIP premises, technology and materials are compliant with the Ministry’s privacy standards.
