This
document describes how to use an LDAP version of the UVic online directory with
popular email clients. This allows
searching from within the email client, rather than with the web interface,
which results in a more productive work environment.

First of
all, Outlook must be in “Corporate or Workgroup” mode to take advantage of
LDAP. To ensure that Outlook is in
“Corporate or Workgroup” mode:

To install
LDAP support, and configure it to use the UVic LDAP server:

Launch
Eudora
2.
Select
Tools->Directory Services
3.
Under
Protocols highlight LDAP, then click New Database…

4.
Click
on the Network tab and enter the values as follows

5.
Click
on the Search Options tab and fill out the screen as follows:

Click
OK
7.
Place
a check in the box beside UVic LDAP Directory by clicking on the box

Launch
Eudora
2.
Select
Tools->Directory Services
3.
Type the name you wish to search for in the Query box,
and click Start

4.
The results will be displayed in the boxes below

5.
Once
you identify the desired recipient, highlight their name and click on To, CC,
or BCC to add them as recipients of a new email.

Launch
Address Book application.
2.
Select
Address Book-> Preferences.
3.
Select
the LDAP tab and click Add

4.
Fill
out the form as follows and click Save

The
LDAP tab should now appear as follows

Launch
Mac Mail and Compose a message
2.
Type a
name or partial email address into the To: box. After you stop typing, a list of possible matches should appear.
Select the appropriate match by clicking on it
