GSS hiring: note-taker

The GSS is seeking to hire a notetaker to assist our chair in meetings.

This is a short term contract beginnnig as soon as possible and ending March 31, 2011.

JOB DESCRIPTION: GSS Notetaker/support worker

Position type: This position is a part time casual position. This position ends along with the term of the representative needing note taking support (March 31, 2012). The note taker must have a flexible schedule and be able to attend meetings Monday – Friday during regular office hours on an as-needed basis.

 Reports to: GSS Executive Director 

Works with: GSS representatives needing note-taking support

 Key responsibilities

  • Takes notes in meetings for representative(s) of the GSS needing note taking support
  • Reviews notes at the end of the meeting to make sure they are clear and suitable
  • Adapts content, format and layout to suit needs of the representative
  • Obtains handouts, reports and agendas in advance of the meeting, as needed
  • Maintains confidentiality as to discussions in meetings
  • Note relevant documents referred to in the meeting.
  • Ensures details such as names of attendees, location, and date are recorded
  • Ensures agreements and tasks assigned are clearly noted
  • Provides explanations of any abbreviations

Role

The role of the note taker is to take accurate, comprehensive and unbiased notes for meetings attended by the representative

The note taker is not a meeting participant; she or he only records the meeting content.

 Skills

  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Clear handwriting
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent spelling and comprehension in English
  • Strong general knowledge of the university structure and decision making bodies an asset
  • Experience working as a note taker/captioner or academic support worker for disabled students an asset

  Compensation

$ 19.83/ hour
