Admission

Note: The information given below are just guidelines. Please refer to the UVic website for up-to-date and complete information.

Note: There are a number of "agents" in India that will apply to the Universities for you and aid you in the entire process for a fee of approx. Rs.10,000-12,000. It is not necessary to go through these agents as the application process is fairly simple, and they sometimes tend to push you towards Universities or Colleges they have tie-ups with.

Graduate Students

Process:
  1. Choose the faculty you want to do your degree in and check their latest admission requirements.
  2. Try and contact a student currently in the same research area and ask them any questions you might have
  3. Select the supervisor under whom you would like to carry out your graduate studies. E-mail him about how your interests concurs with his area of ongoing research and write to him about what you want to do. It's a good idea to get information about projects or prospective work oppotunities. Also attach your C.V.(resume) asking him to make an appraisal on your chances of being accepted to his research group and the University.(Asking about funding in the first e-mail won't be a good idea).
If the reply is yes, and you really want to apply, send him a second e-mail inquiring about the funding available.
However, it is often the case that the professor may say that he doesn't have funding presently. If you have the ability to fund yourself for the entire period of studies then go ahead and apply. Please note that unless your professor is funding you, you might have to look for a Teaching Assistant(T.A.) job or a job off-campus.
  4. Give your TOEFL/IELTS and GRE/GMAT exams.(if required)
  5. Fill the online application form.
  6. Courier the necessary documents to the University.
  7. Apply for a Study Permit and Student Visa.
  8. Give your medical exam.
  9. Book your ticket!!
