Scholarships

The Scholarships available for undergraduate and graduate students are:

Entrance Scholarships:
International students coming directly from B.C. Community Colleges or Canadian High schools to the University of Victoria can apply for Entrance Scholarships. Students with an International Baccalaureate can also apply for the scholarship.
The deadline for the application is 28th February of the year. It is advisable that eligible students apply as soon as they get the admission offer from the University.

In-Course Scholarships:
In-Course scholarships are available for continuing students who have successfully completed two semester with a GPA of 'A' average in a year. Most of the in-course scholarships are recommended from the department, the faculty or the university. No application is required, but for some in-course scholarships you have to submit an application. The deadline for the application is 30th April of the year.

Bursaries

The University of Victoria provides different kinds of Bursaries to undergraduate and graduate students. But please don't get your hopes up as International Students are NOT eligible for Bursaries.

Working in Canada

Permits:
International students are allowed to work on campus and off campus. In order to work on campus, students have to apply for the Work Study Program, which is your ticket to work on campus. International students do not require work permits to work on campus.

Good news for all International Students. Since 2007, Citizenship and Immigration Canada has passed a bill stating that International students can also work off campus. In order to work off campus students must have a valid work permit and full time student status in a College or University.

Note:In order to work anywhere in Canada, students must have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN). For information on obtaining your SIN card click here.

Hours and Wages:
International Students are allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours per week. The minimum wage is $8 per hour. Almost all on-campus jobs pay $10 per hour and off-campus work will get you anywhere between $8- $12 per hour.
