Eric Kunze used to compose classical music, mostly for piano, under the guidance of Canadian pianists David Swan, Jackie Parker and Denella Sing. His scores include:

Four Early Etudes for solo piano, op. 1
Early Etude No. 1 “Allegro barbaro e nostalgico” (ca. 1969, rev. 1977, 1983)
-- sonata-allegro form in D major and D minor echoing early Bartok before he had heard Bartok. Aging barbarians reminisce about their past raids over a fire.
Early Etude No. 2 “Athabasca Fantasy” (ca. 1977)
-- 2-part form echoing of Busoni harmonies

Early Etude No. 3 “Rondo-Suite” (ca. 1978, rev. 1992)
-- performed twice for a 1978 Amnesty UBC concert and Seattle Marzena 14 APR 1992
