Graduate student opportunities in petrology and geochemistry: I am always keen to hear from enthusiastic and questioning prospective graduate students. Current areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
    •    The formation and cooling of the oceanic crust and lithosphere.
    •    Hydrothermal circulation in the oceanic crust and its impact on seawater chemistry.
    •    The thermal evolution of Earth's crust and mantle.
    •    Global geochemical cycles.

Research interests: I’m a petrology and geochemist by training but have a general interest in how the Earth works.  My research is mainly focused on the role the formation of new oceanic crust and lithosphere plays in the Earth system. Research areas range from mantle melting through magma chamber processes and crustal accretion to hydrothermal alteration of the crust both on- and off-axis and the chemical impact of this on seawater. I use a range of approaches including field (ophiolite and shipboard), experimental, analytical and modeling approaches. I am also interest in the early Earth system.
