July 2: Off to the Atherton Tablelands...Come to Australia and you too could drive this fabulous, brand new car!!
We decided to do the tablelands curcuit (Cairns-Atherton-Mareeba-Cairns)
We drove up into the mountains above Cairns
It was much cooler up there (check out these cool dudes)
We stopped to see the Curtain Fig Tree. The photos don't do it justice, but here's the basic idea...
There is a very big tree, way up high...
That lives atop a curtain of roots 200 feet above the ground.
And we found some other mighty strange trees...
Then we stopped at Lake Tinaroo (a man-made lake)
Followed that with a stop at Barron Falls (note the gondola in the upper right corner)
We could see the cable car across the gorge (mega-digital zoom).
Dudes still lookin cool...
Just few bugs... this one about the size of a robin...
On the way back down into Cairns, I realized I had tossed a
cigarette from the car on the way up...
We capped off our first Saturday night in Oz by doing laundry, eating pizza (again), and watching videos (again). Now it's time to drag our sun-stroked bodies off to bed...
