How do you use Let's Face It!?

Hi Everyone,

As a member of the Let's Face It! Outreach Team, I would like to know how YOU use the LFI! resources at home, in the classroom, or elsewhere. The Let's Face It! Intervention Program is comprised of computer and hands-on activities, to be used in one-on-one or group settings. The great thing about LFI! is that each activity can be easily adapted to fit the needs of your unique child. By sharing your experiences with other LFI! users on this site, you can help the LFI! community grow by generating valuable discussion that is needed in order for us to continue to develop this innovative and interactive intervention for children with autism. We are looking forward to hearing your ideas, questions and comments about Let's Face It!

Sincerely,

Lia Best

Running a small pilot study of LFI in our school district

Hi. A fellow low incidence coordinator and I have been running a small study using the LFI software program and curriculum (and adding more activities) with a group of students with Autism at one of our elementary schools. We did the NEPSY II subtests to do with facial recognition and expression before intervention, and post. We saw the student's ability to recognize faces increase on these subtests. As a district, we plan to begin implementation of the LFI program in more of our elementary schools learning support classrooms next year. We would love to work with the UVIC LFI team to create more engaging curriculum to supplement the software program. We found that a number of the hands-on activities needed some "tweaking" to be appealing to kids. KW

LFI! is going global!

LFI! is making its European debut! Having been a member of the LFI outreach team until coming to Europe last year and beginning to work in the autism field in my new home -Barcelona, Spain- I will be spreading the word about our fabulous, free, and fun computer games and hand-on activities. Until now, I have been speaking one-on-one with individuals in the field, but I am optimistic that in the near future I will have the opportunity to reach more people at training sessions and conferences. If anyone has any ideas about how else I can reach parents and professionals I would be grateful for any suggestions or ideas! Watch out Europe, here we come!

I love Let's Face It!

I just started using Let's Face It with my 6 year old son who is on the spectrum. He often has a hard time recognizing the emotions other people make and has difficulty understanding social situations. I've been looking for something like this to help him practice. A teacher at my son's school recommended LFI to use at home and we have been playing the computer games almost every day for a month now. We have tried a few of the hands on activities and I'm beginning to understand the different "domains" of face processing. There are so many resources on the website and I like how adaptable they are. Some of the activities are difficult for him but maybe when he is older we will try them. And right now there are some games he likes more than others... like zap it! I truly think he is beginning to notice faces and facial expressions a bit more. But most importantly this is a fun way for us to do something together that he enjoys. Thank you!!!!

We are so grateful for your comments! I'm glad to hear that Let's Face It! is working for you and your son. Zap it! is also my favourite game :)

Keep up the good work and keep the comments coming everyone.
