- September 7 2011 : The lecture notes are available to be downloaded.
- September 7 2011 : ROOM CHANGE . The lecture room has been moved to Elliott 061.
- September 8 2011 : Assignment 1 has now been posted.
- September 9 2011 : The discussion of feedbacks on pp. 16-17 of the notes requires some clarification. A feedback is positive if an increase (decrease) in the variable x changes fluxes, sources, or sinks in such a way thatx increases (or decreases) further. That is, perturbations are amplified by positive feedbacks. In contrast, if an increase (decrease) in x causes the fluxes, sources, or sinks to change in such a way that x subsequently decreases (increases) - that is, if the perturbation is offset - then the feedback is negative .
- September 23 2011 : Some typos have been noted in Assignment 1. Question 2.d.iv should refer to 2.d.iii, not (h). Similarly, questions 2.e.iv. and 2.e.v should refer to 2.e.iii, not part (m).
- September 23 2011 : Assignment 2 has now been posted.
- October 5 2011 : Geoff Stanley has prepared some general comments on Assignment 1.
- October 11 2011 : Assignment 3 has now been posted. NOTE: The due date is November 1, not October 28 as indicated in the course outline.
- October 17 2011 : The marked Assignments 2 are available from in front of my office door. As well, Geoff has prepared some general comments on Assignment 2 .
- October 26 2011 : Two small errors on Assignment 3 have been noted. First, the hint for question 1(b) should be moved to 1(d). Second, the description of the reaction in Question 2 should read, " ... but also reacts to form the non-toxic compounds C and D in the presence of light."
UPDATE : Another typo was found in Question 1 of Assignment 3. The letter "T" was used for both temperature, and period - which is of course confusing. A corrected version of the assignment has been posted, including the corrections to 1(b) and the introduction to 2. Sorry for the confusion.
- October 28 2011 : Assignment 4 has now been posted.
- November 17 2011 : Assignment 5 has now been posted.
