Bloomsday 2015 Photos
A hearty thank you to everyone who made Bloomsday2015.com such a success! Once again, David Peacock welcomed Ulysses-lovers to the James Joyce Bistro for a night of celebration and merriment. It was an excellent evening that brought the University of Victoria, local businesses, and community together to celebrate the life of James Joyce.
This year, Hoyne sponsored the First Annual Beer and Bloomsday Short Fiction Contest–the proceeds of which were donated to Literacy Victoria. Hoyne also generously donated $1 from every pint sold to the project.
The O’Neil fund in Irish Literature, brilliantly managed by Elizabeth Grove White, the English Department at the University of Victoria, and the University Library, sponsored readings from Ulysses. Our judges chose the three best readings to award two Kobo e-readers. Robert Amos donated a hand-made chalice depicting a scene from Finnegans Wake for the third place place winner.
I was particularly glad to welcome my colleagues from the Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI.org) and Kent Emerson from the University of Tulsa, who serves as the book review editor for the James Joyce Quarterly. We had attendees from all over the world who gathered to celebrate pints and prose.
Here’s some photos of our evening.
Special thanks to Hoyne Brewery, the James Joyce Bistro, the O’Neil Fund in Irish Literature, The Department of English, the University Library, and the Modernist Versions Project.
