Data Mining
Group Project - Progress Report
When is it due? Monday, March 10th at 11:59pm.
How many points is it worth? It's worth 20% of your project grade (or 5% of your final grade).
For details, see the Assignment on Brightspace.
Now that you have had time to identify/gather data and make some progress on the problem you are approaching, it is time to submit a progress report. Your progress report should be three-to-five pages (excluding references, if any). Many of the sections are similar to how they were in the formal proposal, but with more detail and discussion of changes. The progress report should have the following 5 sections, in this order:
- The problem: You should concisely describe the problem and the datasets you will use (or how you will get/generate data). Also, indicate how your problem has changed since your formal proposal.
- Goals: How will you measure success? In this course, this almost always should be something quantifiable. Talk about the different results your project might yield. Your description of goals likely should be more specific than it was in your formal proposal. You are encouraged to explain how your goals have changed as you have worked on the problem.
- Plan and Progress-to-date: Describe in detail your current experiments and the experiments you still plan to do. By now, you should have done some initial experiments and consulted some of the sources (e.g. literature, experts) that your formal proposal mentioned you would consult with. Also, explain what part of your plan you have accomplished. If your plan has changed since the formal proposal, please explain the changes.
- Task breakdown: Describe the tasks that each individual group member will perform. If the tasks have changed since the initial proposal, explain how they changed.
- Initial results: Show the results of the initial experiments you've run (this can be using graphs, tables, whatever best captures the results). Also, if the results have affected your project plan, please discuss how they affected it.
