"The only oneness that's interesting is the oneness of a mosaic of diversities, which is the nature of the ecosystem as well."

"The really subversive element in Ecology rests not on any of its more sophisticated concepts, but upon its basic premise: inter-relatedness. But the genuinely radical nature of that proposition is not generally perceived, even, I think, by ecologists.... There are no discrete entities."

· Neil Evernden

When approaching faculty about incorporating the environment and ecological concerns into the classrooms of other disciplines, Common Energy found that the most frequently recurring complaint was, unsurprisingly, a lack of time to do research.

Ecodemia word cloud (primary words visible are "culture" and "nature."In response comes this website, which strives to present existing ecological pedagogical tools. Ecodemia brings together a series of resources, accessible from the drop-down menu on the left, to facilitate bringing the environment and environmental attitudes into the classroom (admittedly, the focus is presently on literary studies, though this lens is intended to expand as the site grows). Some of the content is original to the site, but the majority of it is simply links to the extensive material already available on the web.

"Let every individual and institution now think and act as a responsible trustee of Earth, seeking choices in ecology, economics, and ethics that will provide a sustainable future, eliminate pollution, poverty, and violence, awaken the wonder of life, and foster peaceful progress in the human adventure."

· John McConnell, founder of International Earth Day

Resources

The focus of this site is to facilitate the integration of themes that inspire students to think about the role of their disciplines in understanding how human beings interact with their environments into post-secondary classrooms. Its goal is to make it as easy as possible for faculty to access the resources necessary to this facilitation.

Ecodemia encourages sustainability and a sense of mutual responsibility between the individual and place, striving to make it easier to integrate environmental attitudes into both the theoretical and practical academic worlds.

Another focus is to foster and encourage community among like- and unlike-minded individuals, to spark discussion and debate about the pros and cons of hotbed issues of sustainability and environmental attitude.

Further resources are available to students specifically; some of these link back to this site (like the journals and journal databases), while others are targeted primarily at students (like the guides for post-secondary institutions).
