Pursuing Psychology evenings are forum style events featuring experts in each of the four major streams offered at UVic. Students have the opportunity to learn about academic and career paths, the challenges, and rewards of of different professions in psychology. Preference is given to non-academic career options, however academic careers will also be covered. Discussion is encouraged, and refreshments are provided.

A series of four "How To" workshops will be offered throughout the school year. Each will feature a topic relevant to students taking the next step of their academic and professional life. Expert panelists attend and refreshments are provided.

 

How To: Get into Grad School: 

Hosted in conjunction with the Canadian Psychological Association UVic Representatives: A forum style that covers everything you need to know about the who, what, and whens of applying to grad schools. Questions are encouraged! 

 

How To: Participate in Research:

 

Covers how to register for SONA, and research projects at UVic. Current students will describe their experience with how to break into the research game. May significance be ever in your favour!

 

How To: Get into Honours:

 

Presented by the Coordinator of the Psychology Honours Program. Following up on the research theme, this event discusses how to turn your research interest into an honours thesis. Requirements and the application process will be discussed, current honours students will share their experiences and answer any questions.

 

How To: Participate in Conferences: 

This workshop will cover writing a succesful abstract, presentation skills, and general conference information. Local volunteer opportunities and conferences will be highlighted.

 Social Events: Even a society of overachievers needs to have fun sometimes!

 

Social nights are open to members and non-members. See the PsychOS page for more great Psych student events! 

 

 Psychosocial Banquet:

 

Organized in conjunction with PsychOS. This event follows the annual undergraduate conference. A great way to unwind after a long year, connect with new students, and commiserate about exams! Psych themed games will occur (admit it you love Psych Jeopardy and Mingle Bingo), door prizes will be given out at the event, and every effort will been made to accomadate various diets.

 

Induction: Once accepted, (see How To Join) students are encouraged to attend a casual evening event welcoming them to the chapter!
