Welcome to the UVIC RDC

The Research Data Centre at the University of Victoria is part of the Canadian Research Data Centre Network (CRCDN). Operating in conjunction with the CRDCN we facilitate access to Statistics Canada confidential microdata for crucial social research while protecting the confidentiality and security of Canadians’ information. RDCs located throughout the country mean researchers are not obliged to travel to Ottawa to access Statistics Canada data.

The RDC follows the health and safety guidelines of both Statistics Canada and the university. These guidelines no longer mandate the wearing of a mask as a requirement to work in the RDC. We continue to strongly encourage everyone to wear a mask when in the RDC to ensure a safe, accessible, and inclusive environment for all researchers, including those who have, or who live with those who have, health conditions that place them at higher risk of poor outcomes of COVID-19. We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations to enable researchers to continue their work in the RDC without barriers due to health or family status. Please reach out to our local academic director if you require accommodation to be able to safely continue your research.

Data Access

Please visit the Canadian Research Data Centre Network to search all data currently available in the RDCs. The Statistics Canada Data Liberation Initiative (DLI) provides direct access to Public Use Microdata Files (PUMFs). Applicants must demonstrate that their research cannot be conducted using PUMFs. UVic affiliates have access through the Library Data Services Dataverse.

To access our data and start your research project, applications can be made by individual researchers or by research teams led by a principal applicant. Please visit the Statistics Canada Microdata Access Portal to apply.
