The Leiden University rankings 2022 ranked University of Victoria as 2nd in Canada for research impact in physical sciences and engineering (as measured by research citations).
Victoria, the capital of the province of British Columbia, is located in the west coast of Canada overlooking the pacific ocean. With a mild weather all year around (the mildest winter in Canada), Victoria is a formidable place to work and live.
Students are an integral part of our research program. Students have the freedom to innovate by working in a collaborative environment that emphasizes connections between different projects. With plenty of opportunity for collaboration with other research groups (check out our network of collaborators Quantum BC), each student is expected to present their work in at least one conference, and to publish at least one paper in a Physical Review level journal.
Our interaction with high-tech companies such as D-Wave Systems, Xanadu Quantum Technologies, Photonic, Applied NanoTools, Ki3Photonics, etc provides a unique training and collaborative opportunity that helps the transition to the private sector in the future. If you work for us, you will learn a unique set of analytical and computational skills, and will be exposed to applied research in a company. With these skills, students become prime candidates for jobs in academia, physical sciences, technology, finance, and coding sectors.
Students interested in working in our group are encouraged to apply directly to the faculty of graduate studies.
To ensure that we see your application, please list Dr. de Sousa as your proposed supervisor.
