Growing up, Sydney always envisioned herself moving out and going away to college, but with this comes the important decision of which college to pick. There are many factors and things to consider that go into this decision and Sydney had no idea where to even start. After researching different options, talking to her fellow classmates and applying to the programs, *Sydney had narrowed it down to 3 choices*[[ University of British Columbia ]], which was nice and close to home [[University of Calgary]], which would be an out of province adventure or [[University of Victoria]] which was kind of in the middle.
Sydney was very close to her friends and family which is why she heavily considered this option. Not to mention, UBC was one of the top schools in Canada and had one of the best business programs, which was what Sydney had planned on perusing. However, it was the pressure from one of Sydney’s teachers who thought that this was the best decision for her that made her consider what do [[next]]. The thrill of moving to a new province really excited Sydney as she had some close family members who lived near the university and she could envision herself moving her life there and having a support system. This program was also very appealing to her and she received a scholarship which also made her heavily consider this [[option]].University of Victoria was always in Sydney’s head because she had older friends who had attended the university and spoke highly of the school. Sydney was also heavily persuaded by her best friend Taylor was attending the school and wanted Sydney to room with her in the dorms. These factors, along with UVIC’s well recognized business program made it definitely a place to [[consider]].Sydney made a day trip to Vancouver with her family to explore the campus and get a sense of what it would be like to live there. The pressure was on as *UBC’s Business program was quite prestige* and with Sydney’s teacher pressuring her to choose UBC she felt nervous to make her [[final decision]].As decision time was approaching, Sydney knew that she needed to narrow her options from 3 to 2 and after visiting the school and much consideration she decided to cross University of Calgary off the list. This was because she didn’t want to endure the **freezing cold winters** and pay **high travel fees** every time she wanted to come home to see her family.
That spring break, Sydney decided to go take a trip to the island to visit UVIC and get a vibe of the campus to help her make a decision. She explored the dorms, the buildings, the lecture halls, the beaches and downtown Victoria to see if she could envision herself living there before she made her [[final decision]].

She loved that Victoria was close enough to home but that she still got her independence. Despite the pressure she felt from her teacher to attend UBC, Sydney couldn’t envision herself at such a massive school and in such a competitive program. She was very excited to move to the Island and begin a new adventure. After making this decision, Sydney only hoped that her [[future]] in Victoria would be bright.
It is now 2 years later, and Sydney is concluding her second year of the Bachelor of Commerce program, living with her closest friends off campus!! Sydney is very **glad** that she weighed all of her options and is happy with her decision to attend the *University of Victoria*!!
