In this session, a panel of experienced researchers will explore the complex and challenging process of conducting community-based research related to natural resource use and management. How can research be conducted to not only achieve research goals but also to benefit communities? How can local and traditional knowledge be incorporated into research projects? What role can community researchers play? Other topics to be addressed include ethical considerations, intellectual property rights, sharing of data, and developing research protocols. Panelists include:

Kelly Bannister, School of Environmental Studies, University of Victoria;
Darcy Mitchell, Technology and Environment Division, Royal Roads University; Kelly Vodden, Department of Geography, Simon Fraser University; with Shawn Morford, SIFERP (Chair).
