Drill:               Flag Tag

Format:           Fitness Blasts, Group Tasks, and Minor Games.

Focus:             Wrestling and Agility

Teaching Styles:                    Command and Practice

Teaching Cues:

1.      Low body position.

2.      Reaction time.

3.      Change of direction / push off

Game Objectives:

·        Use of speed and agility to maintain possession of the flag (Defense), and attempting to remove another persons flag (Offense).

·        Remove as many flags as possible. (Keeping individual score)

·        (With knee slap progression)  Win two consecutive knees slap points and return with your flag to the arena.

Materials:      Pinnies equal to the number of students in the class.

Organization:

  1. Bring the class in and have them take a pinny and stick it in back of their waist band.
  2. Select two students and an area 5m by 5m.  Have the students try to keep their pinny while trying to remove the other student pinny.  Explain the objectives as soon as one student has lost their pinny.
  3. Set the boundaries that the “Flag Tag” game will be played in.
  4. Consequences:  When your pinny is removed, run to the edge of the playing area count-off: 5 jumping jacks. (extra exercise is teacher decided)
  5. Progression:  Instead of push ups, etc. when your flag is removed immediately hold it in the air.  Find another student with their flag raised.  Select an area outside of the “Flag Tag” arena and play the knee slap game.  The winner of two consecutive knee slap points returns to the arena, the other student looks for another knee-slap opponent.  If you have lost three knee slap matches in a row you automatically are back in the flag tag arena.

Cognitive:  establishing a behaviour that keeps your pinny while enables you to remove anothers.

Affective/Social:  group competition but more than one winner, as there is individual scoring.  Everyone is in opposition so there is inclusion and fun, no teams or winners.

Psychomotor:  effective body positioning, powerful push off, and quick hands and feet.
