DRIVE Cues
- Prepare
to snap the wrist
- Get
under the shuttle using long strides to move
- Line
up the shuttle with non-hitting arm
- Break
the elbow
- Throw
the racquet head at the shuttle
- Strike
the shuttle above you forehead
Practice Progression.
- Partners
throw over-arm to each other over space
- Partner
throw feed shuttle up high for partner to hit
- Hit
the shuttle to self up high then over-head clear, partner does same and
returns shuttle
- Rally
with partner doing overhead clear
- Put
pairs in a long and narrow court (2 m
by 4 m). Play pairs in a
game where point starts after two overhead clears hit in a row. Players must hit the shuttle upwards.
Application game: In
2 on 2 “over-space” game focus on setting up for attack by creating space on
opponents’ court. Ask students to
decide how they score, how they start and re-start the game. Play up to four points. Winning players’ court is made 1 m wider and
longer.
Ask “Where should
pairs stand to cover the court?” – Front and back. Communicate to cover space.
Teaching Reminders
- Tell
the group where to stand to give demonstration. Make sure they can see the model.
- Recommend
that you use a demonstrator from the class that you can talk about.
- Send
the students to an area to practice, a safe space. Say, “Annnnnd STOP,” to add on
extensions to the skill as you progress towards the application game.
- Give
feedback to students as do skill.
- Modify
activity (“Modify complexity”) for individuals to extend or simplify based
on needs.
